Analogue commercial radio

Anyone who wants to broadcast analogue commercial radio must apply for a licence with us. A licence to broadcast commercial radio entails the right to broadcast a programme service (channel) within the broadcasting area specified in the licence. No-one is allowed to have more than one licence within a broadcasting area, unless there are special reasons for this.

How to apply for a licence

When there are licences available for application, we publish this information on the website. A licensing procedure is then started. Licences are allocated to those who have offered the highest broadcasting fee. We take into consideration the fact that the broadcaster has the financial and technical prerequisites to keep broadcasting throughout the licence period before issuing a licence.  The current licences are valid until 31 July 2018.

The rules pertaining to licensing for commercial radio can be found in the Swedish Radio and Television Act Chapter 13.
