The Press Subsidies Council

The Press Subsidies Council is an independent decision-making body that allocates press subsidies and development subsidies to the daily press. The Council reviews the applications for press subsidies and decides whether or not a newspaper is entitled to receive such support.

In addition to deciding on the matter of subsidies, the Council also decides on other issues relating to the Swedish Press Subsidy Ordinance (1990:524).

The Press Subsidies Council is composed of a chairman, a vice-chairman and a maximum of twelve other members, all of whom are appointed by the Government. The chairman and vice-chairman of the Council shall be or must at one time have served as a judge. The Authority serves as a secretariat for the Council and receives all applications and conducts drafting activities on behalf of the Council.
