The Media Subsidies Council

The Media Subsidies Council is an independent decision-making body that allocates press subsidies and media subsidies to the daily press and to general news media. The Council reviews the applications for press and media subsidies and decides whether or not the media is entitled to receive such support.

In addition to deciding on the matter of subsidies, the Council also decides on other issues relating to the Swedish Press Subsidy Ordinance (1990:524) and the Swedish Media Subsidy Ordinance (2018:2053).

The Media Subsidies Council is composed of a chairman, a vice-chairman and a maximum of twelve other members, all of whom are appointed by the Government. The chairman and vice-chairman of the Council shall be or must at one time have served as a judge. The Authority serves as a secretariat for the Council and receives all applications and conducts drafting activities on behalf of the Council.
